mold 3.0.0 is the first Rust release of the high-speed linker

mold 3.0.0 completes the linker’s rewrite from C++ to Rust. The project describes it as a drop-in replacement for 2.42.1, with linking performance still on par, the same supported targets and options, and compatibility checks that included building Gentoo packages. The release also fixes several linker bugs and says bounds checks make malformed input fail with a Rust panic instead of the prior C++ version’s possible out-of-bounds read and segmentation fault.

The switch changes build requirements: Cargo replaces CMake, Rust 1.95 or later is required, and the C compiler is still needed. These compatibility and performance claims are from the project’s release notes. The linked Hacker News page showed no readable comments when checked, so there are no reader reactions to summarize.
