Google adds component-level security patch state for Android

Android’s Security State libraries let apps distinguish the patch level currently installed from what Google has published and what an on-device update client can install. That gives apps and device-management tools a more precise view than one device-wide patch date, including separate status for Android system software, Play-updated modules, and the kernel. The APIs can also check whether specific CVEs are patched, so an app could defer a sensitive operation until a relevant update is available or installed.

Google’s AndroidX Security State 1.1.0 and Security State Provider 1.0.0 were announced as stable on September 17; InfoQ covered them on October 4. This is patch-state reporting and a standard interface for update clients—not an update mechanism or a guarantee that every OEM exposes every component’s status. InfoQ has no reader-comment section.
