Introducing Pizza Bot, an open-source inbox for background AI agents
Pizza Bot turns long-running agent work into an asynchronous inbox: schedule a task or trigger it by webhook, then review the result or approve the next action when it is ready.
The open-source, self-hosted app stores threads, checkpoints, attachments, and logs in a user-controlled folder; it connects to the model provider and MCP servers the user chooses. A server/client design lets a task continue while a desktop app is closed if the backend stays running. It is a community project, not an AWS service, with no AWS support or SLA, and users must manage backups and updates. The authors also say its external skill/MCP catalog is still thin compared with the internal Amazon predecessor.
HN reactions welcomed the inbox model for asynchronous work, while asking about alternatives such as ticket trackers and email, how it differs from other agent harnesses, and rough edges in setup and skill discoverability. One user found local-model setup janky; another liked the simple install and requested choosing models per delegated skill. The maintainers clarified that remote self-hosted backends are supported and acknowledged documentation and feature gaps.
