Cloudflare introduces a Web Search API for AI agents
Cloudflare’s Web Search API is now in beta through AI Gateway, giving Workers and other applications a way to ground agent responses in live web results. It supports Ceramic.ai, Exa, and Linkup; Cloudflare says requests can use zero-data-retention settings, appear in AI Gateway logs, and are billed at each provider’s listed API price without a Cloudflare markup. You can also bring your own provider key.
The Hacker News discussion focused on an important integration caveat: commenters found provider terms that restrict retaining, indexing, or redistributing search results. That may constrain cached results or shareable agent transcripts even when a provider offers zero data retention. Teams should check the selected provider’s output-use terms separately from its request-retention settings.
