Meta’s ZGateway cuts ZippyDB connections 19× while handling 1B+ operations per second

Meta describes putting a regional stateless proxy tier in front of ZippyDB to tame the connection mesh created by more than a million client hosts. The gateway centralizes routing, admission control, authorization, caching, and request coalescing; Meta says it handles over one billion operations per second and estimates roughly 19× fewer persistent connections.

The trade-off is another network hop and a new shared tier to operate. These scale and connection-reduction figures are Meta’s reported results and model estimates, not independent benchmarks. InfoQ has no article comment section.
