FTL v0.1.0: Better Linux compatibility, and multi-threaded Tokio
FTL’s new v0.1.0 release adds enough Linux compatibility to run async Rust applications, including Linux threads, futexes, epoll, signals, and a multi-threaded Tokio runtime. FTL runs a userspace OS per container atop a small kernel, aiming for VM-like isolation with lightweight overhead; this remains an early project, not a mature container boundary. The roadmap still lists filesystem and improved untrusted-code sandboxing as future work.
The author also reports QEMU microVM support, lazy anonymous-page allocation, and x86-64 SMEP/SMAP hardening. HN’s 45-comment thread was mostly banter and jokes, with some speculative claims about LLM-generated kernels; those are not evidence about FTL’s design or performance.
