openSUSE brings ZUPT post-quantum backups into Factory

ZUPT has been accepted into openSUSE Factory as an open-source backup and data-protection tool. It combines archiving, compression, integrity checks, and encryption, including a hybrid ML-KEM-768 + X25519 key exchange alongside AES-256. That gives long-lived or sensitive backups a post-quantum component without sacrificing compatibility with conventional public-key cryptography.

The openSUSE announcement also describes multithreaded backup and restore processing. This is a project announcement, not an independent security review; the hybrid scheme is intended to reduce “harvest now, decrypt later” risk, but it does not make a backup immune to every compromise. Phoronix’s coverage showed no reader comments, so there are no source reactions to report.
