Happy new year DPC and anyone else hanging in here.

Rostra is almost 1 year old. I remember waiting for its release in early 2025 hah

dpc, one question about searching for a node or id on Iroh/rostra:

So my id here is rsut5j319xfrsr8ud3rgua8nmxm6kegcjjggijc6te5ein4tyjw8my

I understand its some ed25xx public key, which is some 64 bit number.

Using just this id, anyone can find this ‘user’ on the Iroh network, if I understand this correctly.

Then, my question is, lets say I only had the first 32 bits of this id, would I be able to find this user or endpoint on the Iroh/rostra network?

Why didn’t I thought of it before? I’m not very bright. 🤷

Instead of showing my own view of Rostra UI’s in the public view, which might be confusing initially and which by default does not contain posts by the only person posting here - me, I will be showing view from a separate account I’ve created: @Anonymous Lurker.

So does that account follow anyone? What’s shown ultimately?

Hello again from rostra.me Android chrome

Right now my Rostra’s experience is way better than Twitter. The UI is nicer, IMO. I only get to see Hacker News Bot posts, which is actually very relevant content to me. And my comments don’t bring much feedback, which is the same as on Twitter.

🤣

Yes, a lot has improved. The biggest change I like is that now there is time beside each post, so that I can see when it was made. Great work!

Hi all from rostra.me on Android chrome

There are three ‘types’ of social networks:

  1. Twitter like - Nostr is mostly like that, and as is Blue Sky. Its basically tree like comments.
  2. Reddit like - It has topics/rooms/subreddits, which allows for things to be converge on same topic. You basically post on some topic ( name of room/subreddit).
  3. A group chat: This is another way to collect people on same topic ( name of group/room name).

With main Rostra, you have covered 1. Now its up to you whether and how you want to support 2 and 3. IMO, the next desirable step would be group chat. The twitter like setup is quite like reddit like thing, if you just add a tag to every thread, you can combine it into one ‘subreddit’.

Group chat was a huge hit in Nostr at one time. People wanted to connect with their kind, and they used group chats a lot. Anigma was a early telegram like Nostr client, and it was used a lot. Nostr Console also supported groups, as seen here: https://x.com/lunaticoin/status/1607286820433440771

The idea of adding more reddit-like UX/experience to Rostra came back to me with some motivation to try it out. Basically channel with upvotes and downvotes.

Though I’m not sure how to exactly go about it yet.

Should “social” and “reddit” be somewhat separate UI entirely, or should it be folded as a tab somewhere?

And then what exactly a “subreddit”/channel/topic would be.

Maybe anyone could create an event that basically creates a “community”, and then “replies” to that event would be “posts within community? And then replices to these posts would be comments and upvotes/downvotes.
